Big value, bold promise.

Gustavus goes beyond your expectations. From day one, you’ll get at least $30,000 in annual scholarships, no matter your situation. Over four years, that’s a guaranteed $120,000 toward your degree.

You’ll find plenty of other options for support, including the First-Year Free Tuition program. With a solid financial foundation in place, you’ll have the freedom to follow your curiosity through a Signature Experience, and graduate on time with the full support of dedicated faculty.

$30,000 Minimum Scholarship

Regardless of your family’s income, we’ll give you at least $30,000 in scholarships each year for four years ($120,000 total) when you're admitted and file the FAFSA. You could receive additional financial aid depending on your family’s specific financial circumstances.

Signature Experience

Design your future with the Gustavus Signature Experience (SigX): your bridge from classroom to career. With SigX, every Gustie completes at least one internship, student-faculty research project, study away experience, or practicum course. You’ll get up to $3,000 in additional aid to pursue your SigX passion, and earn a digital credential for your resume and LinkedIn profile.

First-Year Free Tuition

We’ll cover the full tuition cost for your first year as a Gustie and, if you continue to qualify, you’ll get the same amount for your sophomore, junior, and senior years. You’ll pay any subsequent tuition increases (usually about 3.5%), plus the annual cost of housing, meals, and fees.

Four-Year Graduation Guarantee

Graduate on time with support you can count on. Complete your degree within four years or we’ll cover your ninth-semester tuition. This guarantee is based on our strong faculty-led advising, our commitment to holding down the cost of higher education, and our confidence that you’ll thrive as a Gustie.

To be eligible for the Gustavus Four-Year Graduation Guarantee, you must meet these eligibility requirements:

  • Enter Gustavus as a first-timefirst-yearfull-time student in the Fall term.
  • Maintain continuous full-time enrollment at Gustavus or a Gustavus-sponsored study away program for eight consecutive Fall-Spring semesters.
  • Successfully complete an average of 16 semester credit hours each semester in courses that make progress toward a single major, graduation credit requirements, and/or general education requirements.
  • Maintain satisfactory academic progress.
  • Declare a major by the end of the sophomore year.

Note: The Four-Year Graduation Guarantee applies only to meeting the degree requirements for a single major, graduation credit requirements, and general education requirements. You may change your major and still be eligible if, at the time a change is made, you can still meet the requirements of the new major within the 128 semester credit requirement.

If these eligibility requirements have been met and a student has not completed the degree requirements to graduate after eight consecutive semesters of study at Gustavus, you must:

  • Apply for the Four-Year Graduation Guarantee with the Provost’s Office by May 15 of the 8th semester.
  • Complete the tuition-free courses during one academic term that is within one year of the student's original four-year planned graduation date (i.e. summer term, 9th or 10th semester).
  • The Four-Year Graduation Guarantee requires that students live on campus and enroll in courses in person. Exemptions may be requested through the Provost Office, but are not guaranteed.

Students must complete their remaining requirements in a single semester. If the courses you need are offered only in alternate semesters, the College may allow for course substitutions.

Exclusions

  • Public Accounting and Education majors are not eligible for the Gustavus Four-Year Graduation Guarantee due to external licensure requirements.
  • Students who, because of a change of major are required to complete more than 128 semester credits, or those students enrolled in accredited majors (e.g. education or public accounting) who must take more than 128 semester credits or enroll in courses over nine semesters to meet certification requirements.
  • The Four-Year Graduation Guarantee does not extend to fulfillment of a second major, minor, or pre-professional program requirements.
