Winter Break Housing

Residence halls are closed during Winter Break: From 9 a.m. the Saturday after finals 6 until noon on the Sunday before the Spring term starts.

To stay in campus housing over this time, you must make a request for Break Housing. Find the form in your housing portal.

Residential access will not work during Winter Break unless you have applied and been approved for break housing before the posted deadline.

You are eligible to request Winter Break housing if you:

  • Reside farther than 350 miles from campus/are an international student

  • Are required to remain on campus for an academic, administrative, or athletic department (must list coach/instructor/supervisor name and department)

  • Are approved for special accommodation for extreme extenuating circumstances. Requests will be reviewed by the Director of Housing and Residence Life

Form Submission

Deadline: Sunday, December 1.

Submissions received after the deadline are subject to a $25 late processing fee. Remaining in or returning to housing without requesting approval in advance is subject to a $150 improper checkout fine.

You are only approved to stay on the dates specified in your request, and only students with advanced approval can remain in housing. No guests are permitted. Roommates are not permitted to move in unless they have submitted their own request and been approved.

All College policies remain in effect. Break housing information will be shared with the Dean of Students Office, Campus Safety, Physical Plant, and Building Services.

Campus Services

Prior to any break (i.e. Fall Break, Spring Break), please be sure to check a building or department's hours so you know what campus resources will be available. Many offices and buildings may be closed. You may need to make your own meal arrangements. Check the Dining Service page for menus and meal times during breaks.

The Housing and Residential Life Office will be closed Thursday, December 24, 2026 through Friday, January 1, 2027. You will not be able to return to campus or seek late break housing approval when the office is closed. You will have to find an alternate housing option if you are not approved in advance for break housing.

The Housing and Residential Life Office will re-open for normal business hours at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, January 4, 2027.

Campus Safety can always be reached at 507-933-8888 for any emergency or safety issue.
